Recognizing a Scam at First Glance

Because my buddy Eddy Salomon has everything you need to be Scam Free over at Work At Home No Scams, I'm just going to mention some of my pet peeves. More importantly I think it's important to know the difference between a scam and just a plain old pain in the neck!
Imagine this: a company comes to town with a promise to employ people in your town while providing everyone else a product or service they need. They build that beautiful building on Main St and start employing people. They might say something like "because we just opened it will take four weeks to get payroll up and running. Then they find out they can't nearly make the kind of $$$ they had projected and probably never will. They can't make payroll and tell everyone it's going to take seven more business days for the checks to arrive. Instead the "brass" quietly slips away leaving the "office" to tell the people they owe to call a useless 1-800 number for any questions they may have. Then they slip away as well!
This, folks, is a scam.
On line scams offer the originators a lot more flexibility. These people can either know before launch they won't make "payroll", or find out after launch they never will. Those that already know also know they can string some of them along. They say something like the system is having problems with a projected operating date 3 weeks out. They may even pay a few people at first to make a name for themselves as a program that pays only to stop 3 months later. They know they will also get some sign ups in the meantime from people who are uninitiated to the online income world. Recognizing a scam from the beginning is difficult for any of us but those who have limited skills at researching can get hurt the worst. It is for those people I write this blog.

There are a ton of sites out there that get you to do a bunch of work for them yet close down a few months later, taking your earnings with them! They got what they wanted without taking money out of your pocket, just your earnings from them. While not technically a scam it has taken your earnings and closed up shop. You gave them what they needed and they simply disappeared.

My next pet peeve in second place is the web site that says it's one thing but is actually another. These guys will take the phone number you were required to provide to register and call you. They don't identify themselves as the owners of the website but will say they saw your resume' online and have a position within their company that may fit you. You go through all the particulars only to find out they want you to start a home business selling their brand of what-ever-it-is.

My third pet peeve is not a scam either, just very deceiving. It is swiftly making it to the number one position:
The sales gimmick that hides itself behind the guise its a religious web site! Doing research, whether you are looking for scam reviews or you're just plain old suspicious of a web site should show you weather their intentions are good or not. The latest one I ran into sends out a broadcast message to Facebook members. They recently had one that was a you tube video of this 10 year old boy with an angelic voice. After a minor amount of research I found out they're really selling nutritional supplements, herbal remedies and home-medic advice. I could never begin to list all the dangerous things these ideas bring about! They actually encourage controlling blood pressure and mental health issues using this stuff exclusively.

The bottom line is research.

Number four is not so much a plain old pain, just a waste of my time. These are people who do indeed have an idea that works very well, for them. One instance shows it's possible to make money on e-bay without having anything to sell! You find an item that is not categorized well or misspelled to the point it doesn't bring any bids. Then you buy it for really cheap and re list it correctly. Do this a bunch of times and make lots of money.
Then there's the technique of coming up with one good website idea a week so you've got 52 great websites within the year! You make lots of money.

I believe the age old business strategy is still the right one and as strong as it wise:
Do one thing and do it well!
