Your website, your face

Just like it says, your website is just like any relationship. The first thing people see is your face, the first page, the home page of your website. It's that face that either makes them think this is worth investigating or run away screaming. A face that has beautiful eyes yet missing anything else is not going to do good things.

Enough of the analogies. Work at subjects lots of people are interested in. Create lists of useful information these people would specifically be interested in. Include good stories and lists of stuff they can buy to help them along.

I read about a guy who decided a web site about sump pumps. He figured there were enough people needing them he'd make money, and he did. And I noticed there is a heavy need this year for gear for people to walk on slippery ice without breaking something. I have the feeling that's because of all the ice storms in the nation. Where I live I would have never known about this. The ideas that come to mind since then are endless, yet none of which are really feasible to me right now.

Even though you know a lot about a subject doesn't mean it will appeal to the masses. I don't know how many people are interested in horseshoes but, I know a lot about them! Even if I had information on lots of other stuff about horses there are two things going against it. Very few people make any money from owning horses. It's a hobby most of the time. I would consider the economy as well. Gas, groceries, the essentials are going to survive this better than any hobby. Banks have been running around collecting the boats, collector cars, second properties and worse. Survival is first and foremost. Second is more income. That's pretty much it.
